  • China wants to align its strategies with Bangladesh and jointly promote the ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Bangladesh had asked for Chinese funds for nine new projects worth US$ 6.4 billion, including for a new port and a bridge. China has emerged as Bangladesh’s largest development partner in recent years and has pumped in funds for several infrastructure projects, a growth in ties that would be closely monitored by India.

CANADA:

  • CANADA: A series of protests have taken place in Canada since late June when the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Toronto staged a protest near the Chinese Consulate in solidarity with India and against China’s actions in Ladakh. Disparate groups have also joined in these marches and demonstrations, including Taiwanese and Vietnamese-origin Canadians, even Bangladeshi minorities.

  • BANGLADESH: A bomb went off inside the Pallabi police station, wounding four police officers. The assault was claimed by ISIL, but the government has consistently denied the presence in the country of any transnational armed groups.
