SOUTH ASIA

  • PAKISTAN: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP, a strong ally of al-Qaeda) recent reunification of various breakaway factions –Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Hizb ul-Ahrar, Hakeemullah Mehsud group and a faction of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi– will pose threats to projects linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative in northwestern Pakistan, according to analysts. The TTP often target Chinese projects as retaliation for mistreatment of Uyghur Muslims by the Chinese government.

CONFLICT IN SOUTH ASIA:

  • The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has announced that the organization’s two major splinter groups, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Hizbul Ahrar (that have a strong presence in provinces of Afghanistan) have joined its ranks again. The reintegration offers TTP a strong sanctuary in Afghanistan, in the Afghan peace process.
