  • EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN: In a move reviving tensions with Greece, Turkey sent the Oruc Reis vessel to a disputed area near the Greek island of Kastellorizo off Turkey’s coast. Greece said it was a “major escalation” of their dispute over maritime rights and claims to hydrocarbon resources in the region.

  • Poland fined Russia’s state-owned energy giant Gazprom $7.6 billion (6.5 billion euros) for building the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany, saying the project hurts Polish consumers and increases Europe’s dependence on Russian imports. Gazprom said it will appeal the decision.
