  • In Somalia, a car bomb exploded at the entrance of a hotel frequented by Somali officials, members of the security forces and community leaders. At least three people were killed. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility. The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab has been waging a violent insurgency across the Horn of Africa country seeking to unseat the internationally backed government in Mogadishu.

  • IRAN: A senior Iranian expert specialized in nuclear technology was assassinated in a terrorist attack while travelling in a vehicle about 40 kilometers northeast of Tehran. His killing is the highest-profile death of an Iranian official since the assassination of General Soleimani by the US in Iraq. Israel is suspected of the assassination or the Top Iranian nuclear scientist.

  • NIGER: A group of six Frenchmen and two locals were massacred by a terrorist group in Koure, where Niger has a giraffe reserve. The identities of the perpetrators are still under speculation. Terrorist groups such as Boko Haram operate in the area.

  • AFGHANISTAN: an Islamic State suicide bomber drove a car laden with explosives up to a prison detonating the bomb, and then the IS militants opened fire, achieving that some of the 1,500 prisoners, much of them believed to be IS members, escaped.  The Islamic State in Khorasan Province claimed responsibility for the attack.

  • NIGERIA: Jihadi terrorists attacked the town of Maiduguri in the North East of Nigeria, as locals were preparing celebrations of the Muslim festival Eid al-Aldha. Before, the convoy of Borno State’s Governor Babagana Zulum, was hit by machine gun fire.

  • BELARUS: Belarus detained 33 alleged Russian mercenaries in Minsk accused of preparing a terrorist attack to destabilise the country ahead of its presidential elections in a sharp escalation of tensions with Moscow. Belarus has claimed the men are mercenaries employed by the Russian private military company Wagner, which has been tied to an ally of Putin and has fought in armed conflict in Ukraine, Syria and countries in Africa.
