  • Venezuela said that a gas plant belonging to the state-run oil and gas company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) was targeted by a terrorist attack in the northern state of Monagas, which has led to the facility’s disruption. Caracas has repeatedly accused the United States of organizing attacks on communications, energy, and oil and gas facilities in Venezuela.

  • Russia announced that country will cooperate closely with the new National Assembly of Venezuela. The statement came a day after the inauguration of the new lawmakers who were elected on December 6, 2020, when the forces of the Left, led by the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole, achieved 91 percent of the parliamentary seats. The European Union, the U.S., and Canada have so far refused to recognize the election results.

  • VENEZUELA-CHINA: China ratified to continue its cooperation with Venezuela although the United States threatened to sanction countries and companies that do business with the South American country in the oil sector. The state-owned oil company Petroleos de Venezuela resumed crude oil shipments to China, after a halt started in August 2019 due to US sanctions.
